Hello Deborah,
It’s fun to find your blog. What a fascinating story! You and your husband must have had something of the flower children in you, too, selling your house and taking to the road! Actually, I think 8 shafts is a great place to start! More shafts don’t make the process of threading any more complicated really, just add to the grunt work. You can always forget about the back 4 shafts and work on the front 4, if you don’t want to use an 8 shaft pattern. The great thing about a countermarche (as opposed to a counterbalance) is you can use whatever number of shafts you want, odd numbers too. Right now I’m working on 7.
Welcome to both weaving and blog land! I’m so glad the blogs will help you with your Bergman loom. Clearly, from your story, it was meant to be your loom. I look forward to reading more about it and your weaving.
What a stirring story, Deborah! I found myself holding my breath as your Bergman escaped the wood pile. Welcome to the world of weaving and blogging! (Says the seasoned weaver with one whole month of weaving AND blogging experience under her belt.)
